4- La Sagrada Familia -Catedral in Barcelona - Guell Park
We had such a lovely day exploring today. We started at Gaudi park and finished at Gaudi's unfinished cathedral. We were truly the tourist as we got on a bus with sightseeing groups to see the historical spots. This is the church that everyone thinks of when you talk about going to Barcelona. ( it must be an artist rendering because the building has cranes and protective netting over a lot of it) This cathedral has been in construction for 719 years so far, and is still not completed.
I will say now before you read the historical stuff I added before I left that the man may not design in my personal style, but he was a genius with the tools he had at the time. The tile roof is fanciful, but in this arid country, it offers great run off during rain and his homes and buildings all had water storage and filter systems .
The architect and artist is named Gaudi, and our term "gaudy" could be close in description ( extravagantly bright or showy, brilliantly or excessively showy)
While I was studying this trip, found this video of 25 things to see in Barcelona. We will be seeing many of them ( Click if or when you have 10 minutes and 39 seconds - Or skip it for my highlights.

The Cathedral in Barcelona is well known for it's design and architecture, but it is one of the longest construction periods of any church in history. The construction of this imposing cathedral started in the 11th Century and continues to this day. The foundations of a basilica were destroyed by the Moors in 985. The nave was built between 1298-1448. The construction of the neo-gothic facade was finished in 1890. The church houses 29 side chapels.
This huge church with 18 towers will be able to house 13,000 people when completed.
Dinner tonight is piella, a rice and seafood with saffron spice that is very popular in Spain. It is a shared meal that is quite delicious.
We may have started out On a bus, but before we ended the day we posted 24,000+ steps and 10 miles of walking... a good day.
