12 -Tarifa... Gateway to Morroco

We started the day by train and then picked up the car to drive south.  This is me looking forward to the drive, and Fred looking at our maps, memorizing our location, referring the our GPS and in general doing his pre trip Fred thing.

This was a pretty amazing sight coming over the hill.

The city of Tarifa really has the feel of being off the coast of Africa.  People have been very nice, and our host hotel could not be more warm and welcoming.   They were so exited to share their city (and practice their English)  I think that I have said that we hear less and less English.

This city has two old buildings.  The one below was a military post (10th Century)  They are stabilizing it answer preserving it.  We toured it yesterday, it has some marvelous view over the Mediterranean on the one side of the strait, and the Atlantic on the other.  This crashing combination makes for great kite surfing,  to watch them is incredibly fast sport.

The Oldcastle below sits on the beach  looking out at the two oceans.  You can see that it was prestigious at one time.  It is fenced off, so they intend to fix it.   They are so their low crime rate.

Last night dinner was at a little French place.  Really good, especially since we weren't all that excited about French food in France.
I am pre-setting this page for publication on the road.    I know that Tarfa is a wind surfing town with it's other business being that of day tourists to Morocco. ( That would be Fred and I) It is primarily known as one of the world's most popular destinations for wind sports. The town is located on the Costa de la Luz ("coast of light") and across the Straits of Gibraltar facing Morocco.
