A Birthday trip to the Beach
It is a lovely Memorial Day weekend and we decided to leave Tacoma for a little weekend at Longbeach, WA. The weather was sunny, but just a little chilly. Fred is ready for bed early after finding just how many steps he completed by the end of the day. We had a lovely dinner at one of our very favorite restaurants - 42nd Street Cafe in Seaview. The name is Cafe but it is the "full meal deal - and at it's best".
We try to get away to this area at least a couple times a year. Here we are trying our best at this selfie thing that everyone is crazy about. It does allow me to look like I am also on vacation with Fred. He is the birthday boy, so we will make sure we get plenty shots of him.
These red poppies were blooming Along all the sidewalks, they must have decided to plant wildflowers on all the empty lots . It was so pretty. Lots for reds, blues and yellow. I know that the poppy's will be gone in a week, but I was so glad to be there to see it when it was this pretty.
We were late finding a hotel so ended up in a cute bed and breakfast. The view below was from our window seat. The new owners purchased it two days ago. They were trying so hard to be the best new innkeepers. Their two sons came to live with them and are just finishing high school from Colorado. This had to be a little hard on them as well.
Again, the wild flowers are everywhere. You could not beat the beauty.
I know that you are thinking that you are looking at the Sound or the ocean, but this is actuall the mouth of the Columbia River. It is as beautiful as anywhere.

May 30th - Fred's actual birthday.
We are driving back home the long way and stopped at the Military installation in Chinook, WA. Not a soul around, I was surprised, thought maybe we would catch a little bit of a Memorial ceremony since we were there at about 10:00 a.m.

This is a gunnery at the top of Fort Chinook. We read later that the guns were added 40 years after the closing of the Ft.
